History Bowl - State Champs!
Do you know the year that Indianapolis became a state capital?
This question and many more were asked at the 3rd Annual Hoosier History Bowl held at the Indianapolis Historical Society on Saturday, April 28th. On that day, a group of seven dedicated junior historians from River Birch Elementary in Avon were led by their teacher and coach, Lowell Miller, to win first place in this year’s competition.
Since January, these students have committed themselves to learning Indiana’s historical facts from a packet of 500 questions. They competed against six other school clubs throughout Indiana, winning all three round-robin matches and the final championship match. In addition to receiving a club trophy and medals, their accomplishment included a monetary prize of $150.00 to be used for the historical club that Mr. Miller founded. The picture above includes all of the students and Mr. Miller with their team t- shirt that was designed by the winning team.
